An exciting opportunity for you to join A-Gas Engineering Team, this role will be based in Portbury, Bristol, UK, with regular travel expected to cover other European A-Gas sites.

Job description

This role will program, configure, and commission process control systems using Rockwell Automation’s IDE software and Inductive Automation’s Ignition SCADA platform. Verify and validate process control systems throughout the phases of capital projects at A-Gas UK/EU sites.

You will provide controls support, trouble shooting and improvements to UK/EU site Operations and Engineering departments.

This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a cross-disciplinary EU Engineering Design and Build team, supporting local Engineering teams on sites throughout Europe with maintenance of electrical equipment where necessary

We are looking for a mid-level controls engineer however we will consider both more senior and junior engineers for this role. Wiliness to learn and travel are essential skills for this role. Salary is negotiable based on experience.

Job requirements

Essential

·         HNC/HND or bachelor’s degree in, Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering or equivalent experience.

·         PLC programming experience, preferably Allen Bradley/Rockwell Automation.

·         SCADA system design experience, preferably Ignition.

·         Knowledge of the design, configuration, installation, and commissioning of industrial IT communication networks for new and current systems.

·         Experience in delivering engineering projects, working to engineering processes and procedures.

·         Understanding of relevant industry regulations and standards.

·         Experience of control systems, construction and commissioning industrial plant and machinery.

·         Experience of AutoCAD LT/Electrical or similar.

·         Ability to read P&ID drawings, specifications and reports.

·         Able to coordinate and work effectively with external contractors.

·         A team player, excellent organisational, planning, communication and time management skills.

Desirable

·         Experience of chemical processing plant and pressurised liquefied gas systems.

·         Understanding of Functional Safety standards, especially IEC 61511.

·         Experience of configuring variable speed drives.

·         GIT revision control or similar.

·         Experience of LV electrical design, construction, and commissioning industrial plant and machinery.

·         Knowledge or experience of ATEX/DSEAR

Key Responsibilities

Functional Safety & Risk Management:

• Prepare control and project documentation, to comply with Functional Safety legislation and standards

• Manage and liaison with third-party inspectors

• Participate in HAZID/HAZOP, LOPAs and design reviews

• Prepare Safety Requirements Specifications

• Prepare Verification and Validation Documentation
• Ensure standards and safety are maintained throughout all project interactions and delivery, acting as an ambassador for local site teams

PLC Programming and SCADA System Design:

• Review existing PLC code and verify compliance against IEC 61131 and IEC 61511.

• Participate in code and SCADA reviews

• Independently review Ladder, ST, and FBD code

• Manage revision control of code using GIT and Azure Dev Ops or comparable systems

• Program PLC control systems from scratch

• Generate Ignition SCADA user interfaces from scratch

• Modify PLC programs and SCADA interfaces, ensuring that change is managed accordingly

Preventative and Reactive Maintenance: 

• Support local teams in maintaining site equipment to minimise downtime

• Ensure that control systems are safe, calibrated, functioning to design and within test

• Carry out reviews of performance and maintenance records to identify improvement opportunities
